Garden waste collection service

Garden waste consists of about 30% of the average household bin. It is a waste of resources sending this material to landfill sites instead of recycling/ composting it. In a landfill, the garden waste rots down without air (anaerobically), creating methane (one of the greenhouse gasses).

The garden waste collection service now operates weekly across the borough all year round.  Your garden waste will be collected on the same day as your refuse and recycling.

Find your joint collection day by using the ECT Recycling online database.

Your sacks must be out by 7am on your collection day at the front boundary of your property, but not on the pavement.  If you are unable to carry your food waste bin to the front of your property you can arrange for an assisted collection

Re-usable sacks
To make garden waste recycling even easier the council has provided residents with three re-usable sacks to replace the biodegradable pink sacks.  This means you will have sacks whenever you need them rather than having to collect them from council offices or local libraries.

The heavy-duty sacks are weighted so that they won’t blow away, and are made of weatherproof material. They should last up to three years.  To protect them, please store them when they are not in use.

If you have a big garden you can request additional re-usable sacks by contacting Ealing Council customer services on 020 8825 6000 or customers@ealing.gov.uk

Items that can be put in the re-usable sacks:

Please don’t overfill your sacks, as it can make them heavy and difficult to move.  Your sacks cannot be emptied if they contain any other items like soil, rubble, other bags or fallen fruit (please use the food waste collection service for fallen fruit).

The council does not accept garden waste in the normal household refuse collection. Large quantities of garden waste will be accepted for composting at the re-use and recycling centres.
