Ashden award
The
Ashden award
for sustainable energy in schools is offering a first prize of
£15,000 and a second prize of £5,000 to schools which can prove
that they have made sustainable energy a key, ongoing part of their
practice and culture. This includes improving energy
efficiency and using renewable energy within the school premises;
integrating sustainable energy throughout the curriculum; and
creating a sustainability ethos in which the responsible use and
generation of energy is a key element.
Capital waste learning
Capital waste learning is a unique interactive
website which aims to raise awareness, and set practical
activities, around the amount of waste generated within London, and
how much of it can be recycled.
Computer Aid
Computer Aid is a registered charity that refurbishes IT
equipment for reuse in schools, hospitals and community
organisations in developing countries. As well as
IT, they also recycle empty printer cartridges and old mobile
phones. They offer a free decommissioning service to
organisations in the UK for their old IT equipment. They take
individual donations of computers as well as donations from large
corporates. They offer free data wiping, take full legal
liabilities, hold the Environment Agency certificates on handling
hazardous waste and by donating to them, the donor will be fully
complying with the forthcoming WEEE directive.

framework to enable your school to analyse its operations and
become more sustainable.

website on many environmental subjects including waste and
recycling. Visit their

Friends of the Earth
Friends of the Earth have created lesson plans and colourful
posters to help you learn more about the environment, including

Recycool recycle mobile phones, PDAs and empty printer
cartridges to raise money for schools and nurseries.
Enterprise, citizenship and teaching resources, tied in with the
curriculum can help your school or nursery to fund any number of

Thinkcans.com is the website of Novelis Recycling.
They operate Europe’s only dedicated aluminium can recycling
plant. The website explains the value of aluminium can
recycling, shows how cans are recycled and how to keep the
aluminium can recycling loop going.
Waste Watch
Waste
Watch is a leading national organisation on
promoting waste minimisation and recycling. They run many
educational projects and are experts in incorporating waste
minimisation and recycling into the National Curriculum. Their
educational website provides children and teachers alike with
information, games and activities about waste and
recycling.

interactive games and exciting activities. The teacher's zone
