The mobile phone operators are not obliged through the planning system to provide information relating to the power output of their equipment. In accordance with government guidance, the council will not approve proposals unless they meet International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) guidelines for public exposure.
It is the government's firm view that the planning system is not the place for determining health safeguards and the local planning authority in assessing proposals is primarily concerned with the design and siting of telecommunications infrastructure.
The Office of Communications (Ofcom) has information about existing mobile phone base stations and locations.
