Article 4 Directions
The council has made Article 4 Directions covering all of the
properties in the following conservation areas. The effect of the
direction (in addition to standard conservation area controls) is
that planning permission is also required for the following
development. This does not mean that the council will necessarily
refuse permission, but enables it to exercise greater control in
protecting the character and appearance of the conservation
areas.
Please note: Affected development varies from area to area.
Hanger Hill Haymills Estate (pdf):

Alterations to the front elevations of properties,
including replacement of windows and front or side extensions
where a wall of the extension fronts a road.

Alteration to roof slopes to include rooflights and the
replacement of roofing materials.

Erection of a front porch, or creation of a front porch by
infilling.

Provision of a hardstanding on the road frontage,
including the paving over of front gardens.

Painting of any previously unpainted surfaces on front
elevations.

Erection, alteration or removal of a chimney on a dwelling
house or on a building within the curtilage of a dwelling
house.

Alterations affecting an open space.

The enlargement, improvement or other alteration of a
dwelling house. This includes:
· replacement of windows and doors
· alteration of front porches
· replacement of roof materials

If you wish to carry out these works in these areas you will
need planning permission. The usual fees will be waived in such
cases.
