Environmental education

A key area for the parks and countryside service is our work with schools. Our aim is to promote the use of parks and open spaces as outdoor classrooms for wildlife, heritage and environmental education. We offer curriculum-based activities for pupils, training and advice for teachers and a range of education packs - all designed to maximise children's understanding and enjoyment of their natural environment.

Schools can benefit from:

Activities for children
Ranger-led site visits are available by arrangement throughout term time at a park or open space close to your school. At least one month's notice is required. Bookable classroom facilities are also available at Horsenden Hill and the Litten Nature Reserve. For more information, availability and prices, please contact your nearest ranger team.

Improving school grounds
Do your school grounds need improving for children and wildlife? We offer advice and assistance and our information pack, Improving Your School Grounds is available for purchase. The pack is a step-by-step guide covering publicity advice, wildlife gardening, fundraising and an essential contacts list. Please contact your school's local ranger team for advice or further information.

Education packs
Four teacher-friendly education packs are available to help you lead site-based activities that are fun, interactive and informative. While many of the activities are cross-curricular, the main emphasis is on National Curriculum Key Stages 1 and 2: Life Processes and Living Things. Discover nature first-hand with activities such as pond dipping, mini-beast hunts, food web games and role play and drama.

Education packs are available for £5 each. To order a pack print out and complete the education pack request form (word). The form should be sent with a cheque made payable to 'Ealing Council' to the parks, countryside and events service.

Alternatively the packs are available from Brent Lodge Park, Horsenden Hill and Acton Park.
