Flytipping penalties
Flytipping offenders risk prosecution. The flytipping of waste is a serious criminal offence, it carries a maximum penalty of an unlimited fine or up to five years imprisonment.
It is also an offence to permit flytipping on your land or land that you rent.
Illegally dumping items from vehicles is also classed as flytipping. In this case the person controlling the use of the vehicle can be prosecuted. It is possible for a prosecution to occur when only the vehicle, not the driver, is identifiable. The Police also have the powers to seize vehicles used for flytipping.
The council treats flytipping as a serious offence and will prosecute anyone caught flytipping waste.
