Entry guidelines

Where there are more applications for places than the number of places available, places will be offered according to the following order of priority.

  1. 'Looked after' children from practising Catholic families.
  2. Practising Catholic families who currently have a child in the school.
  3. Practising Catholics who are resident in the parishes of St Peter and Paul and St Dunstan's.
  4. Practising Catholics who are resident in neighbouring parishes for whom Mount Carmel is the nearest Catholic school.
  5. Other Catholic children.
  6. Catechumens and members of the Eastern Christian Church.
  7. Other 'looked after' children.
  8. 8. Christians of other denominations whose parents are in sympathy with the aims and ethos of the school and whose application is supported by a minister of religion.
  9. Children of other faiths whose parents are in sympathy with the aims and ethos of the school and whose application is supported by a religious leader.
  10. Any other applicants.

Where the offer of places to all applicants in any of the categories listed above would lead to oversubscription, the following provisions will be applied.

The attendance of a brother or sister at the school at the time of enrolment will increase the priority of an application within each category. The governing body may increase the priority of an application within a category where evidence is provided at the time of application of an exceptional social, medical or pastoral need of the child which can be most appropriately met at this school.

Tie break
Where the offer of places to all the applicants in any of the sub-categories listed above would still lead to over-subscription, the places up to the admission number will be offered to those living nearest to the front door of the parish church of St Peter and Paul, measuring the shortest walking distance along public highways but excluding common land.

Please contact the school for information on its admission criteria. Please also see information on primary admissions and applying for a primary school place
