Hathaway is a caring school with high standards and high expectations. Our most recent Ofsted inspection reported that the quality of teaching throughout the school is good and that there is a harmonious atmosphere within the school. The DCSF recognised the progress the school has made since 2000 with the Achievement Award and we have been awarded the Quality Mark by the Basic Skills Agency.
Ethos and values
At Hathaway we believe in a broad curriculum. Staff
have high expectations of pupils in all areas of school life
- our expectations in sport and the arts are as high as
in numeracy and literacy and we work closely with parents and
pupils to achieve this. We celebrate the cultural diversity of our
pupils. Good behaviour is very important in the school and we place
a great emphasis on mutual respect and the well being of
others.
Summary of special educational needs policy
Hathaway provides a broad and balanced curriculum
for all children. Teachers take account of particular learning
requirements and make provision to support children, enabling them
to participate in all activities. Curriculum planning and
assessment for children with special educational needs takes
account of the type and extent of their difficulty. A non
class-based special educational needs co-ordinator organises and
delivers training to teaching assistants to help pupils with
special educational needs achieve their full potential.
