The service provides support and advice to schools on

Children's information service (CIS)/Early years

City Learning Centre (CLC)
A centre of IT excellence for all the borough
schools, the Centre offers a full range of IT infrastructure
including video conferencing and a radio station. Delivers
education programmes for the borough schools and provides
professional development training for education staff. The Centre
also has rooms for hire for training and conferences.

Dominion Arts and Cultural Centre
The Centre works with community arts groups across the
borough, providing a centre-based and outreach programme in the
community and schools. Centre also available for hire for

The service provides music opportunities for school children
and the community in all musical traditions and styles – including
South Asian and African – through specialist tuition.

Education social work service
The service responds to individual cases of
non-attendance at school and supports schools to ensure good
attendance by all pupils. Also supports pupils whose welfare is of
concern to the school.

The service provides consultations and advice to parents,
school staff and pupils. Involved in the assessment of pupils with
SEN via referrals often from health service professionals.

The service provides a wide range of activities for children
up to 12 years, and their families. These vary from drop-in play
centres, to childcare schemes such as after school clubs and
holiday projects.

The team works with primary schools to improve
pupil behaviour and ensure that exclusions are kept to a minimum.
The team also provides advice and strategies to teachers and

Special educational needs service (SENS)
The service provides specialist advice to schools for pupils
with specific learning difficulties (dyslexia), sensory and
language impairment and autistic spectrum disorder. It also has an
early years team, which consists of portage (a home visiting
service for children with developmental delay) and a service for
children with diagnosed sensory (vision and hearing) disabilities.
