A new campaign has been launched to interest local people in becoming a councillor at the next local elections in 2010.
The 'Be a Councillor' campaign aims to attract new and exciting talent more representative of their local communities into the council chamber where they can play a role in delivering vital public services.
Talented people from all walks of life are encouraged to stand for election. While London performs better than most UK regions in terms of councillor diversity, people from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, women and younger people are not proportionately represented in the capital’s council chambers.
More information about becoming a councillor is provided on the new Be a Councillor website. This website provides answers to many of the questions people might have when they first think about standing as a councillor.
The campaign has been organised by London Councils, the cross-party organisation representing all of the capital’s boroughs.
