Political and management structures

Ealing has 69 councillors and is Conservative controlled.

There are 43 Conservative councillors, 23 Labour and 3 Liberal Democrat.

Cabinet
Ealing operates a cabinet model of administration. A Leader of the Council and portfolio holders making up the ten-person Cabinet. This is supported by seven seven area committees, scrutiny committees (reviewing decisions, performance and services), regulatory committees (eg town planning and other panels) and advisory committees as required.

An enhanced model of neighbourhood governance will soon replace area committees.  Details on how this will work are likely to be agreed in summer 2008.

Whilst it doesn't have the formal decision-making powers of council meetings, such as the cabinet or the full council, Corporate Board does provide the managerial leadership of the council. The corporate board works with councillors to provide direction for the council, developing and implementing plans and strategies to ensure that we provide the best possible value for money services.

Corporate Leadership Team
We have also created a dynamic Corporate Leadership Team made up of the chief executive, executive directors, service directors and the heads of supporting/specialist functions. The Corporate Leadership Team meet monthly to review the council’s performance, strategy and direction.

Scrutiny
There are a number of ways you can get involved in, or have your say on, the democratic process in the borough and the way Ealing Council is run.

There is a direct, proactive way in which you can get involved with the council and local democracy. Scrutiny panels examine the performance of our services and how they are delivered, before making recommendations to the decision-making Cabinet.
