Beaconsfield Road/South Road junction safety scheme

During January 2007, residents and business were consulted on whether they approve the road safety scheme for Beaconsfield Road/South Road Junction. The proposal consisted of the following:

advanced stop line for cyclists in Park Avenue and Beaconsfield Road.
right turn ban into South Road from Park Avenue.
right turn filter from Beaconsfield Road.
right turn only lane in South Road on both arms of the junction.
no entry/ exit only from The Crescent.
upgrade of existing pedestrian refuge island with tactile pavement and drop kerbs.
centre line re-alignment, to allow vehicles to pass bus cage on north side of South Road.

A total of 2932 documents were sent out and 393 returned giving a response rate of 13%. A copy of the consultation document (pdf, large file, 415kb) and the results from this consultation (pdf) are available to dowload and print.

Following the positive result, from the public consultation, Southall Area Committee has approved all aspects of the scheme, for implementation.

The intersection will be undergoing re-surfacing works in the next fortnight. All signal works including right turn ban from Park Avenue into Beaconsfield Road, 'No Entry' into The Crescent, the re-alignment of the traffic island and centre line re-alignment of north of the junction, will be carried out in conjunction with TfL's signal modernisation program. This is expected to take place late June.
