Welren research project
The Welren research project, which investigates the efficacy
of nutrition and physical activity schemes in the schools in
Ealing, is involving four schools to do a before and after
study. Funding for this project was obtained from the West London
Research Network, following a successful external bid. Of the four
schools one school with no intervention will act as the
control group and one school will be in receipt of healthy
eating intervention. One school has physical activity
programmes only and one school has physical activity and
healthy eating. Results will be published in a report by the
end of June.
Cookery clubs
Cookery club leaders working for the Primary Care Trust
continue to develop and set-up cookery clubs for parents/children
in schools. They are also promoting heatlhy eating in pharmacies in
Ealing and will be extending work to talks on nutrition/cookery
clubs for elderly groups and workplaces.
Health promotion in the workplace
Health training for businesses and voluntary organisations
around healthy eating, physical activity, mental health and
well-being, stress reduction, smoking cessation, and sexual health
is currently being planned by Ealing PCT. The initiative is being
rolled out to the voluntary sector now and a healthy business
seminar for workplaces in Ealing will be organised for October
2006. It is hoped that this event will attract local workplaces
interested in improving health and well-being of their employees
and who will benefit from a range of health promoting activities,
free training and advice.
