The death must be registered by a qualified informant such as a spouse, a parent, a child of the deceased, a sibling of deceased or a blood relative.
A death must be registered at the register office within five days in the district where the death occurred, unless the coroner is involved.
Where a sudden death occurs, the death is notified to the coroner so there may be a delay in the registration of the death. The details in the death entry must be full and accurate. Spelling or information mistakes are very difficult to correct.
