Celebratory services

Naming ceremonies and renewal of marriage vows are available at the register office and any other approved venue.

Naming ceremony

This ceremony gives parents and the wider family the opportunity celebrate the birth of a child and welcome the new arrival into the family as an alternative to a baptism or other religious ceremony.  The ceremonies are secular and do not contain any religious references.

It is also an ideal way of creating family bonding for adoptive or step-children by welcoming them into their new extended family.  This ceremony can also be for older children or for all the children in that family.  Any parent can arrange a ceremony, whether married or not.

Register office staff will assist in arranging the ceremony to suit the individual needs of your family.  The format can include:

A selection of poems or readings may also be included in the ceremony.  A souvenir record of the ceremony will be signed and presented during the event.

Renewal of vows ceremony
This ceremony allows couples who have been married for any length of time to celebrate renewing their vows.  These ceremonies are often associated with a special wedding anniversary or for couples who have married abroad and wish to hold a ceremony back home for friends and relatives who did not attend their marriage ceremony.  Register office staff will advise on various options for the ceremony.  The couple can make a choice of vows or promises.  A selection of poems, readings and music may also be included in the ceremony.  A souvenir record of the ceremony will be signed and presented during the event.
