Crowds are gearing up for a two-day extravaganza as the West London Literary Festival returns to the borough this weekend, and marks the close of this year’s Ealing Summer celebrations.
The free festival is being held on Acton Green from 11am-6pm this Saturday and Sunday, 6-7 September. The weekend will provide a host of family entertainment including poetry, recitals and story-telling.
Richard Briers, better-known for his role as Tom Good in the BBC hit TV show The Good Life, will be discussing an assortment of literature during his Desert Island Books slot with the BBC’s Torin Douglas. Visitors will also have the chance to hear from Poet Laureate Andrew Motion, who will be judging the first ever Ealing Arts poetry competition.
Torin Douglas said: "It's a great coup to get Andrew Motion, the poet laureate, and he'll be followed on Saturday afternoon by Richard Briers, who has got a feast of anecdotes to illustrate the eight books he's chosen to take on his desert island. It should be a lot of fun."
Other guests include Jane Yardley, author of A Saucerful of
Secrets, the book selected for Ealing’s Big Read. Book groups and
other literary fans are being encouraged to read the book at the
same time and discuss it with Jane at the event.
