Ealing Council has scored a victory against vandals by blitzing a graffiti hotspot and putting up fencing to keep the taggers out.
Council officers teamed up with Ealing Broadway Business Improvement District (BID), which works with local businesses to improve the town centre, to secure funding for fencing near the entrance to Springbridge Road multi-storey car park, in Haven Green.
A special graffiti removal team blitzed the walls and CCTV was installed before the fencing was put in place earlier this month to stop the graffiti taggers, who were also putting themselves in danger being so close to the railway tracks and overhead electrical lines.
Councillor Sue Emment, Cabinet Member for Environment and Street Services, said: “Graffiti makes the borough look shabby and uncared for. What we have done here is a good example of partnership work.
“We are delighted that Ealing BID showed such support for what we were trying to achieve, and helped to make this happen. One of the Council’s top priorities is cleaner streets and our graffiti clean-up rate is excellent, but we are working hard to prevent it happening at all. We will take tough action against people who blight the borough with mindless vandalism.”
Steve Breen, Ealing BID manager, said: “It is great to have such a high profile and dangerous site now secured from further access and damage, and the town centre looking much cleaner and more presentable as a result.”
