Court success for Ealing Council’s envirocrime team (PR 1309)
A trio of offenders have been hauled to court and fined hundreds
of pounds for envirocrimes across the borough.
Following investigations by Ealing Council’s Envirocrime
Prevention Team, the cases were heard at Acton Magistrates’ Court
on Thursday, 9 October.

Mahmood Harirbafan, of Ealing Kebab, in Uxbridge Road,
West Ealing, admitted failing to comply with a duty of care by
making sure the waste from his shop was correctly disposed of.
A member of staff had dumped rubbish on the highway outside the
shop earlier this year and has since been dismissed. The court
heard that Harirbafan had been served two fixed penalty noticed
for similar offences in September 2007, and May 2008. He was
fined £200 and ordered to pay £300 costs.

Slobadan Jovanovic, of Hanbury Road, Acton, pleaded guilty
to depositing controlled waste in Gordon Road, Ealing. He was
fined £300 and ordered to pay £300 costs.

Empire Direct Ltd, of Horsenden Lane South, Perivale,
pleaded guilty to five counts of displaying advertisement
without consent across the borough. The company was fined £250
and ordered to pay £400 costs.
Councillor Sue Emment, Cabinet Member for Environment and Street
Services, said: “Envirocrimes have a negative impact on the
environment and the area we live in. We will take a tough line with
anyone who tries to spoil the neighbourhood for everyone else.”
