Ealing set to cut carbon footprint (PR 1222)

Ealing Council has signed up to a scheme to cut its carbon footprint and become more energy efficient.

It has joined the Carbon Trust’s Local Authorities Carbon Management programme, along with other councils across the country, to help identify savings and slash its energy bills by up to 20 per cent.

The Carbon Trust’s programme encourages participants to share examples of best practice, so they can learn from one another’s experiences and get the best results.

Councillor Sue Emment, Cabinet Member for Environment and Street Services, said: “We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and are always looking for new ways to do this.

“We are already the first London borough to send all food waste to be turned into organic fertiliser or electricity, and we encourage our residents to recycle as much as they can, but we want to do more.”

The Council is currently working with members of Ealing’s Local Strategic Partnership to develop a climate change strategy to look at ways to encourage residents and local businesses to reduce their carbon emissions. It will also look at how to reduce energy consumption in the Council and partner buildings.
