How would you spend £1million? (PR 1217)

Ealing Council is reminding youngsters there are just over two weeks left to have their say on how the Council should spend £1million to improve facilities for young people in the borough.

The Council has sent surveys to the borough’s schools inviting pupils to share their views on how they think Ealing Council’s new Youth Fund should be spent.

Focus groups have also been set up in schools across the borough to give councillors and young people the chance to get together and thrash out ideas.

The cash was stumped up by Ealing Council to help improve facilities for youngsters after the residents’ survey showed increasing numbers of people think there should be more on offer for young people.

The borough’s youth forum, Ealing Youth Action, is also in touch with existing youth clubs and groups to ask for their views. An e-survey can be completed online at www.youngealing.co.uk

Councillor Ian Gibb, Cabinet Member for Children's Services, said: It’s important that young people get to share their views as the money is there to improve facilities for them.
They are the ones who will be benefiting from the cash so we want to hear what they really think about how it should be spent.

Questionnaires must be returned by 5 June. The consultation will be completed in July, with a shortlist of ideas being submitted to the Cabinet later this summer.  The approved projects could get underway as early as August 2008, with most work due for completion by March next year.
