Ealing Council hosts new employment scheme (pr 1216)

Ealing Council has signed up to a scheme to help unemployed homeless people to find a job and get the right training.

The project, in partnership with six other west London boroughs, is being run from Ealing Council where frontline housing staff from each of the boroughs are beginning to offer the service. Housing advisors are trained to refer residents to local organisations that offer the relevant employment information, advice and guidance.

Staff will be talking to their customers about employment and training aspirations during routine housing interviews and, if the customer is interested, the housing officer will work to help them achieve their goal.

The west London Housing Employment Link Project (HELP) has been training frontline staff across the participating London boroughs so they are equipped with the skills to help their clients into employment.

Councillor Will Brooks, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: "This is an important scheme, and one that we are proud to be hosting. It's hard enough for people in these situations having to deal with the worry of where they will live, let alone the thought of seeking work to better support themselves.

"I'm pleased to say that help is now at hand and housing staff across the participating London boroughs are getting the right training to support the needs of their clients, and overcome any barriers they may face in getting that job."
