More than 100 builders have joined Ealing Council's fight against fly-tipping in a bid to make the borough's streets cleaner.
Scores of tradesmen have been meeting with the Council’s Envirocrime Team, whilst getting their hands on a free breakfast bap, at special events across the borough. The events are being held as part of a month-long awareness campaign to tackle fly-tipping.
Officers are on hand to give help and information about how to legally transport and dispose of waste, and to warn any potential fly-tippers of the hefty penalties they will face. In return, builders have been tipping officers off about fly-tipping sites, which the Council will be investigating.
More information breakfast sessions will be held from 7-10am on:
· Monday 17 March, Wickes, Hanwell.
· Tuesday 25 March, Selco, Southall.
Councillor Will Brooks, Cabinet Member for Environment and Street Services, said: "The events have been successful in getting our messages out to the public. It's a worthwhile education exercise, some builders didn't know there were legal requirements for carrying waste and were leaving themselves open to hefty fines.
"We aim to make sure everyone is aware of the law, there is no excuse to dump rubbish. If you do you will be prosecuted."
The Council's campaign is supported by Capital Standards, which
launched a London-wide campaign to clean-up the capital this week.
Capital Clean-Up will run until June 18.
