Works begin on Greenford regeneration (PR 1240)

A multi-million pound scheme to revitalise Greenford town centre launched as the leader of Ealing Council broke the first ground.

The £5.1million Good for Greenford project got underway on Monday, 23 June, as work began to replace paving at the Brent River Bridge, on Ruislip Road East, by Murrill Construction Ltd.

Signs have also now gone up around the town centre to keep residents and traders fully informed about the works that will take place over the next 18 months. More than £3million of the investment comes from the Council’s £15million regeneration fund being spent to improve town centres across the borough.

Council Leader Jason Stacey said: “I’m very pleased that work has now begun to transform Greenford.  New and existing retailers are excited about the opportunities a new and improved town centre will bring. I’m confident that the work here will attract new business to the borough and mean a greater choice for shoppers.

“We aim to keep any disruption caused by the works to a minimum and would like to thank everyone for their patience during this time.”

The main improvements include:
· new street paving in high quality Yorkstone
· redesigning junctions to improve pedestrian safety and reduce congestion
· stop and shop parking facilities to make it easier to shop
· grants for businesses to upgrade their shopfronts
· new benches, flower beds and other street furniture to make the town centre more attractive
· new street lighting to improve safety in the town centre
