Crackdown on grime in Acton (pr 1151)
Hundreds of pounds worth of fines have been dished out during a major blitz to tackle grime in Acton.
Ealing Council’s Envirocrime officers swooped on the town to carry out rubbish bag searches and trace illegally dumped waste back to its owner. As a result, officers slapped fixed penalty notices on five residents, costing them £80 each.
Three shopkeepers also risk paying a £300 fine if they fail to produce evidence by next week that they are legally disposing of their commercial waste.
Friday’s operation was organised by the Council and Police to improve community safety and reduce envirocrime.
Councillor Will Brooks, Cabinet Member for Environment and Street Services, said: "Keeping the streets free from grime restores pride in our borough. We will continue our fight against fly-tipping and other forms of envirocrime, and prosecute in every case we can."
More fines or prosecutions could follow as officers continue
investigations as a result of evidence unearthed on the day.
