Some of Ealing’s most vulnerable people could benefit from a massive cash injection to help improve their homes.
In its latest budget proposals Ealing Council has pledged £2.5million next year to make adaptations to disabled people’s homes, making them more accessible.
The Council already put an extra £460,000 into the service last summer to reduce the waiting list for work and get improvements made more quickly.
Disabled people can get up to £25,000 worth of work to make
their homes safer, improve their heating or make their kitchens and
bathrooms easier to use. The work, which is means tested,
includes anything from simple adaptations like handrails, to bigger
things like stair lifts, bath chairs, disabled toilets and walk-in
showers.
Council Leader Jason Stacey said: "This service is in very
high demand and it’s really important because it has such a huge
impact on people’s quality of life. This extra investment is
much needed because it will enable us to reduce the waiting lists,
so people won’t have to wait so long for improvements to be carried
out."

Ealing Council’s 2008/9 budget and Council Tax level will
formally be agreed at a meeting of the Council on 4 March.
