Northolt, Perivale and Park Royal all benefit from budget cash (PR 1167)

Northolt, Perivale, Greenford and Park Royal could all benefit from Ealing Council budget cash set aside to spruce up the borough.

Between them the four areas are set to benefit from more than £2.5million under far-reaching plans to regenerate public places and give them a new lease of life.

In Perivale the investment package, worth around £295,000, includes new CCTV cameras for Medway parade, better street lighting and new alley gates in the area to reduce opportunities for criminals.  Work to improve Bilton Road shopping parade and plans to reduce the amount of heavy industrial traffic passing through the town are also on the cards.

In Park Royal the £1.4million proposals focus on improving facilities and services for businesses, which provide jobs for local people.  Cash will include major joint projects with TFL to improve roads and transport in the industrial park.  The Council will also look at new ways of ensuring local residents see greater benefit from career opportunities at Park Royal.

There are also plans for borough-wide support for businesses in Ealing to help them grow and encourage firms to locate to the borough.  Money will also be spent on ensuring Ealing gets its share of cash brought into London by businesses and visitors attracted to the UK by the 2012 Olympics.

People in Northolt will benefit too, with around £240,000 to be spent on improving the main shopping areas, including the Wayfarers Estate shops, plus much needed work to stake grass verges along Mandeville Road.

And there’s £200,000 more for Greenford to be spent on upgrading the car park and working with businesses – that’s on top of the £3.6million already committed to the town centre regeneration project, Good for Greenford.

As well as the cash already announced to create a Heritage Quarter in Ealing, there’s another £100,000 for new information points to signpost attractions, shops and leisure facilities so visitors will be able to find out where to go at the touch of a button.  The Mall area will also get a share of half a million to support local businesses and help traders improve their shop fronts.

Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, David Millican, said: “This is a really ambitious programme and an exciting time to be in the borough.  As a Council we’ve worked hard to improve the standard of services and get the basics right, like improving the safety and cleanliness of our streets. Through sensible financial management we’re now able to commit millions to a massive regeneration programme, which will take everything that’s good about the borough and make it great.”

The Council’s 2008/9 budget and Council Tax level will formally be agreed at a meeting of the Council on 4 March. Once agreed, consultation will take place with residents and traders to discuss the detail of the plans and what they could mean for their area.
