Record crowds flock to Ealing Summer Festival (PR 1264)

Record breaking crowds have turned out in their droves for this year’s Ealing Summer Festival.

More than 76,000 people have thronged to the events, compared to 53,305 at this time in 2007 – that’s a 44 per cent increase on last year and a record for the festival.

Organisers have high hopes that the final two events of this year’s festival, the London Mela on 10 August and West London Literary Festival on 6 and 7 September, will also draw in huge crowds.

Some of the best attended events were the Jazz Festival which had 45,110 visitors this year, up 15,030 on last time around.  Greenford Carnival was also a great success with more than 6,700 visitors this year, up 2,282 on 2007.

Councillor Phil Taylor, Cabinet Member for Customer and Community Services, said: It's great that so many more people have turned out to enjoy the festival this year.  Unlike last year the weather helped more than it hindered.  I got the chance to see one of the comedy nights and one of the jazz nights and it was great to have such high quality entertainment on our doorstep and to enjoy it with our neighbours.”
