Calling all bookworms! (PR 1056)

The newly refurbished Greenford Library is opening its doors to the public on Thursday 27 September.

This follows a three-month makeover, as part of Ealing Council’s ‘Libraries for the 21st Century’ programme, to make the library more appealing to users.

Improvements include:

· extension to the first floor study area, and more free internet access computers
· wheelchair access with automatic doors
· flooring improved and shelving replaced to create a more modern and inviting look
· maintenance work to the windows and roof
· new rooflights providing natural light inside

Ealing Council is also running a competition for the school with the most pupils joining a library in the borough during October to win £200 worth of books. Youngsters aged 4-11 years old who borrow an item that month will also receive a free toy.

Councillor Nigel Sumner, Cabinet Member for Health and Community Well Being, said: “Now the refurbishment works at Greenford Library are complete I hope this will attract a lot of people to come and visit us.

“The refurbished library preserves the best of the original building, bringing the lovely oak floor to life juxtaposed with modern lines and vibrant colours.”

The Mayor Councillor Mrs Hazel Ware will carry out the official opening of Greenford Library on October 11.
