Residents help Police and Council shut down brothel (PR 1052)

Prostitutes were caught in the act during an operation to crack down on a suspected brothel in a quiet residential street in Greenford.

Nearby residents raised the alarm with the Council and Police after instances of disorderly behaviour outside the Mansell Road property and late night visits from a number of men.

Police officers from the Lady Margaret and Greenford Broadway Safer Neighbourhood Teams gained entry to the property on Friday 7 September.

They found three women and three men in the building.

Three women and one man were served with warning notices under the 2003 Sexual Offences Act and told to cease their activities immediately to avoid further action.  There were no arrests made.

The other two men were allowed to leave the premises with a verbal warning about their conduct.

Councillor Sue Emment, Cabinet Member for Safer Communities, said: “Residents should be pleased with the results, they took a stand and got in touch with us and together we achieved a successful outcome.

“The Safer Neighborhood Teams help residents feel safer and allow them to see their concerns being acted upon.

This is a great example of Ealing Council and the Police working in partnership to make Ealing safer.”

Police Comment Community and Partnership Superintendent Ian Jenkins, Ealing Borough Police, said: “We have hopefully restored the peace for residents who live in Mansell Road.

“We are pleased with this success and hope it portrays that safer neighbourhood policing is committed to improving the neighbourhood.

“We believe this closure will further enhance the community's quality of life and help achieve a sustained reduction of crime and disorder in the area.”

No further action is expected to be required, as the property has now been vacated.

The Council’s other two priorities are cleaner streets and value for money.
