A greengrocer guilty of illegal street trading has been prosecuted after action by Ealing Council’s envirocrime team.
Bharat Ali, of KBAG Greengrocers, Greenford Road, Greenford, was given a six-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay a total of £500 court costs for trading without a street licence. He appeared at Acton Magistrates’ Court on August 30.
The trader previously received warning letters from the Council stating he was not allowed to have stock outside the shop. But visits by enforcement officers in December and January revealed that Ali had disregarded the warnings.
Councillor Will Brooks, Cabinet Member for Environment and Street Services, said: “Illegal street trading is a problem we are determined to tackle in our bid to make the streets cleaner.”
Ali claimed to have applied for a licence. It is unlikely a licence will be granted, as the pavement is too narrow outside his shop.

The Council’s other priorities are safer communities and value
