Ealing Council is due to receive almost £1.3 million of lottery funding to revamp and revitalise Northolt Library.
The £1,279,273 funding boost from the Big Lottery Fund’s Community Libraries programme will be used to provide new library services. They will give residents opportunities to learn, overcome barriers to employment and become more involved in community activities. The investment will also improve existing services. Residents will be consulted on exactly how they would like the money to be spent.
Ealing Council competed against other authorities across England for the cash, which is designed to support the development of public libraries.
Councillor Nigel Sumner, Cabinet Member for Health and Community Well Being, said: “As well as creating a focus for community activity in this area, the revamped library will act as a model for other libraries across the borough.
“The service is undergoing a significant period of change with a series of refurbishments, new buildings and joint developments. We are very pleased that this grant will enhance this programme and allow us to provide the quality of services that our residents deserve."
The full grant is due to be released in six months. It is hoped
work will begin in October 2008.
