Infestations of bed bugs, fleas and rats are being wiped out in double-quick time by Ealing Council’s Pest Control Team.
Waiting times have more than halved compared to last year, since Ealing Council recruited two more pest control officers. The unit has also gained an additional two vans to help them with their bug-busting efforts. They have already eradicated more than 1,000 wasps’ nests this season.
The team aims to tackle problems within eight days and about 80 per cent of premises receive a first treatment within five working days. A year ago residents might have been waiting up to six weeks.
Councillor Sue Emment, Cabinet Member for Safer Communities, said: “The team gets up to 25,000 service requests a year and it’s not an easy task. They do a terrific job and I’m glad to see a full team now in place.”
More than half of the team’s time is taken up by laying down poison to kill rodents. Residents can take simple steps to help to reduce the problem, for example by not feeding pigeons and storing their rubbish where it cannot be gnawed at by small animals.
