Under-the-counter Indian porn seized in Southall (PR 1086)
Ealing Council’s Trading Standards officers have seized more than 200 Indian porn DVDs during a raid in Southall.
A series of unclassified pornographic titles, including Banned In Bombay and Boobzilla, were recovered during the raid on a Southall Broadway music and DVD shop.
As well as the pornographic titles more than 900 illegal DVDs and CDs thought to have a street value of approximately £5,000 were recovered. The stash included counterfeit versions of box office films like The Kingdom, Transformers and Knocked Up.
Councillor Sue Emment, Cabinet Member for Safer Communities,
said:
“It is important that we crackdown on people who sell
unclassified and counterfeit music and DVDs.
“The unclassified pornography is particularly concerning because it may well contain hard-core abusive images.
“People who sell pirate and unclassified DVDs ruin the livelihoods of legitimate traders.
“Film fans who buy these pirated products should know that not only are they breaking the law, but they are also buying a product that will be of poor quality. The trade in pirate films and music also has a negative impact on the creative industry and can make it hard for independent companies and distributors to stay in business.
“Southall is a place where people come to enjoy the culture and shopping. Trading in unclassified and counterfeit goods will not be tolerated and the Council is dedicated to ridding the borough of piracy.”
Trading standard officers have been targetting illegal DVD
sellers as part of their ongoing crusade against piracy.
