From trash to high art (PR 1067)

WHAT: Pupils’ art work transformed into recycling banner
WHEN: 2.45pm, Thursday 11 October
WHERE: Jerome Tower, Osborne Road, W3

Creative youngsters will gather to see the banner they helped to create from recyclable materials revealed for the first time on Thursday.

Pupils at Berrymede Infants School produced the banner as part of a project run by Ealing Council and Groundwork West London to raise recycling awareness.

This is part of a wider scheme to promote recycling across Ealing. The Council’s waste and recycling officers have also recently been encouraging residents living in tower blocks on the Golflinks and South Acton estates to recycle more waste.

Councillor Will Brooks, Cabinet Member for Environment and Street Services said: “It’s encouraging to see children taking such an interest in something as important as recycling.

“Residents on the estates have really stepped up their efforts too, we have seen a steady increase on the amount of rubbish they are managing to recycle.”

A Southall environment event was also held with Council staff last month in the Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Oswald Road, to advise residents on environmental issues.
