An Ealing Council sports centre has been ranked as one of the country’s top facilities after gaining recognition for its high quality standards and services.
Southall Sports Centre, run by the Council’s Active Ealing Team, has been highly commended in its Quest accreditation, which is the UK Quality Scheme for Sport and Leisure. It defines standards, good practice and encourages improvement. The centre was awarded an overall score of 75 per cent and is now among the top 10 per cent of sports facilities.
Elthorne Sports Centre in Hanwell also made the grade as one the UK’s best centres when it was given 68 per cent in its Quest inspection earlier this year.
Councillor Nigel Sumner, Cabinet Member for Health and Community Well-Being, said: “This was our first Quest inspection for the Southall centre and I’m really impressed with the high score. Our sports facilities across the borough are just getting better and better.
“I would like to commend the centre manager Andrew Rogers and everyone else involved in making Southall Sports Centre such a success.”
The centre, in Beaconsfield Road, boasts a gym, fitness classes and sauna. It is also home to one of the UK's leading table tennis clubs, London Progress Table Tennis Club, and there is also a sports hall available for cricket, badminton, netball and other activities.
