Scrap metal merchant hauled to court by Ealing Council (PR 1101)

A scrap metal hoarder was hauled in front of magistrates after failing to comply with a Council notice to clear unsightly waste and scrap from outside his home.

Emmanuel Bignall, 66, of Cambridge Road, Hanwell, pleaded guilty to the breach of a statutory notice at Acton Magistrates Court on October 25. He was given a six-month conditional discharge and was not fined.

Council Leader, Jason Stacey, said: "We are doing our best to improve the environment of the borough and make streets cleaner. It is really disheartening when the courts fail to take these issues as seriously as we do and are lenient to those who make the lives of others a misery."

The Council’s Envirocrime Team served Bignall with the original notice in March. The scrap outside Bignall’s home has been cleared but he faces further prosecution if does not abide by the Council’s instructions.
