Further improvements to Greenford Library about to start (PR 984)

The second phase of Greenford Library's make-over to make it a more user-friendly and modern facility will commence in June.

The refurbishment is part of Ealing Council's 'Libraries for the 21st Century' programme, which is dramatically improving the state of the borough's libraries.

Greenford Library will close from 5pm on Saturday 2 June for approximately three months. Residents can access a temporary library from Tuesday 12 June, located in the car park of Greenford Hall.

The second phase of work is designed to make the building more accessible and inviting for users. Wheelchair access to the entrance of the library will be improved and automatic doors will be installed.

The ground floor will be resurfaced and old and damaged shelving will be replaced to create a more modern and open aspect to encourage greater usage of the library's facilities.

Essential maintenance work to the windows and roof will be carried out, as well as an extension of the first floor study area and modernisation of the adult lending library area. The study area will include PCs with free Internet access and Office software and those who wish to use their own laptops to study and access the Internet will be catered for via our managed and secure Wi-Fi connection.

Councillor Nigel Sumner, Cabinet Member for Health and Community Well Being, said: "The second phase of refurbishment works to Greenford Library will deliver a more user-friendly and modern library, which we hope will attract a greater number of users.

"This phase of work follows on from earlier improvements to the junior library, reading area and a new counter which is accessible to wheelchair users.

"I would like to thank the public for their patience over the next three months as we bring Greenford Library up to modern standards."

The temporary library will be situated in the car park of Greenford Hall. Book stock in the temporary library will be limited because of space, however, users can reserve items for free.

Opening hours for the temporary library will be the same as provided currently:
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday  9am–7.45pm
Friday, Saturday  9am–5pm
Monday, Sunday  CLOSED.
