Ealing Fostering and Adoption Connections is encouraging more men to get involved with foster caring as part of this year's Foster Care Fortnight campaign.
Foster Care Fortnight will run across the UK from 14 to 27 May and the Council is holding an information session on 21 May for anyone who may be interested in fostering a child. The Council is also promoting a bookmark campaign to recruit more foster carers to in the borough.
Councillor Ian Gibb, Cabinet Member for Children's Services, said: "Bookmarks for book bags is our new campaign aimed at reaching potential foster carers through the shared reading activities that go on between parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, friends and family.
"More than 15,000 bookmarks will be distributed to all schools, libraries, local bookshops and community centres within the borough to raise awareness about foster caring.
"It is really important that people from all sections of the community who enjoy being with children and want to make a real difference to their lives come forward."
Ealing Fostering and Adoption Connections has just approved the borough's first single man as a short term carer but more men are needed. Men are often not aware that they are equally as eligible to foster a child as a woman or a couple. Male role models play an important part in the well being of boys in foster care and male carers are in constant need.
Ealing Council currently looks after more than 450 children and young people of all ages and it is always looking for people from different backgrounds to provide foster care.
The information session will be held on:
Monday 21 May from 11am to 1pm at the Nelson Room, Ealing
Town Hall. To find out more, please call the Recruitment Team on
