Discover your library (PR 928)

Fancy a quick read during your lunch break? Or access to the latest book titles, DVDs and computer games?  Want somewhere quiet to catch up on study or research, or surf the internet for free?  If so, then now is the time to visit your library.

Throughout February and March Ealing Council is encouraging residents to 'Discover your Library'. The campaign is aimed at getting new users to join their local library, as well as lapsed users who may not have visited for a while.

As an incentive, a range of freebies and prizes are on offer.

Anyone who borrows a library item during the next two months will be entered into a prize draw. The first lucky name drawn each month will win high street vouchers to the value of £100, with 10 runners up each winning a £10 voucher.

Vouchers offering a free DVD or game hire have also been delivered to every home in the borough.  The vouchers are also available in Ealing's sports centres, community centres and other public venues.

Councillor Nigel Sumner, cabinet member for health and community well being, said: "The borough's libraries are a great asset and we want to make sure that all residents have the opportunity to use and enjoy the vast range of services that are on offer.

"It's not just about borrowing books or getting information. There are computers that you can use for free to access the internet or email, we run author events throughout the year, and we are constantly updating our stock of DVDs and games.

"Library membership can bring many benefits, so I hope our new campaign will encourage residents to take the time to discover their local library."

A "Discover your Library" information stall will be held between 10am-3pm on Wednesday 21 February outside the new Tesco supermarket site in Ealing Broadway Shopping Centre.

Library staff will hand out vouchers for a free DVD or game hire and answer questions about the range of services offered at the borough's 12 libraries.

The council's "Discover your Library" campaign continues until 31March.
