A shamed-faced Northfield's dog owner has been fined £50 for disposing of dog mess in the gutter.
The fixed penalty notice was served in Junction Road, W5 following an undercover operation to nab dog-owners who allow pets to foul the pavement.
The dawn stake-out by one of the council's envirocrime team was prompted by persistent complaints from local residents about dog mess in the road.
Despite previous patrols and placing a sign in the road reminding owners that this was an offence, problems continued.
On the morning of the offence, a council envirocrime officer saw a female dog walker allow her pet to defecate on the pavement next to the warning sign and then discard the faeces in the gutter.
The woman was then served with a fixed penalty notice for £50 for littering.
Cllr Will Brooks, cabinet member for environment and transport, said: "Leaving excrement on the pavement for children and other residents to step in and walk into their homes has to come high on the list of anti-social behaviour.
"We've told officers to crack down on this type of selfish behaviour and serve fines whenever they witness these offences. I know that Northfield's residents will welcome the persistence of our officer to catch this person in order to make the borough's streets cleaner."
Delivering cleaner streets is one of Ealing Council's top three
priorities. The other two priorities are safer communities and
providing value for money services.
