Ealing Council is asking residents to have their say on new plans to tackle street drinking.
The Council is proposing three new controlled drinking zones across the borough, covering Acton, South Ealing and Southall. If agreed it will make it an offence to drink alcohol in public in those areas. The Council is aiming to introduce the powers to crackdown on people who drink in parks and on the streets and wants local people to have their say on the issue.
Councillor Sue Emment, Cabinet Member for Safer Communities, said: "The Council wants to rid the borough of street drinking and make parks and public places safe for residents.
"Drinkers who gather on park benches, bus stops and doorways are creating an unpleasant atmosphere for other residents and it will not be tolerated.
"The introduction of the drink free zones is part of the Council's commitment to make communities safer, helping residents feel more at ease in their local areas.
"Many areas of the borough are already controlled drinking zones and they have proven successful in reducing the numbers of nuisance drinkers."
The Council is inviting residents to contact them to have their say on the proposed zones by Monday, 14 January, 2008. For more information call the Community Safety Team on 020 8825 7600.
