Tell us what you love or hate about bus lanes (PR 1037)

Residents are being urged to give the Council their views on bus lanes before it makes any future decisions about where, when and how they should be used.

A panel of Ealing councillors has been set up to carry out an in-depth study and a report with recommendations about bus lanes by next April.

The questions the panel will want to ask people include:

The panel’s final report will be used by the Cabinet to carry out a review of bus lanes in 2008/2009.

The panel meetings are all public and residents are free to speak and give their views.

The next meeting is on Tuesday 4 September, and it will concentrate on bus lanes in Ealing Broadway and the W5 area. Its November meeting will focus on ones in Greenford, January’s on Acton and February’s will discuss the Council’s review of the Northolt bus lane and reach a conclusion on what they want to recommend to Cabinet.

Councillor Dawn Larmouth, chairman of the Bus Lane Specialist Scrutiny Panel, said: “Bus lanes – love them or hate them, we want your views.

“This is your big chance to have a say on the Council’s policy on this issue before any decisions are made.

“This has proved to be a very controversial issue and we are expecting plenty of feedback.”

Panel members were given homework over the summer to gather information to discuss at their meetings.

This included visiting the bus lane CCTV control room, cycling down bus lanes, travelling on buses, driving in a car down bus lanes and crossing various roads where bus lanes are on.

A representative from the following groups have been co-opted on to the panel:

The councillors on the panel are: Dawn Larmouth (Chairman), Bassam Mahfouz (Vice-Chairman), Peter Allott, Colm Costello, Jagdish Gupta, Rosa Popham,  Marie Randall, Ranjit Dheer and Zahida Noori.

Your views can be given to any one of them. Alternatively, contact Keith Fraser, (Head of Scrutiny) on 020 8825 7497 fraserk@ealing.gov.uk
