The cream of Ealing’s athletic talent came out in force to celebrate the opening of Perivale Park Athletics Track’s new purpose built pavilion.
Opening celebrations saw local school children, councillors and sporting partners come together for an afternoon of athletic displays. More than 100 youngsters competed in a number of events ranging from run, jump and throw, open track events, while Commonwealth Games athlete Simon Bown wowed the crowd with a hammer throwing demonstration.
The £720,000 state-of-the-art pavilion was funded by Ealing Council with support from the Big Lottery Fund and the London Marathon Charitable Trust. It provides the track with increased training facilities including extra changing rooms and a social space where classroom style training activities, such as seminars and theory sessions, can be held.
Councillor Nigel Sumner, Cabinet Member for Health and Community Well Being, said: “Perivale Park Athletics Track is an important and award winning feature of the borough, and provides all our up-and-coming athletes, school groups and clubs with a top class training facility.
“The new pavilion enhances the resources already available at the track, and the extra changing rooms along with the classroom facility will be well utilised by the council’s Active Ealing team, coaches and athletes.
“The track is a real asset to the borough and I would encourage
anyone interested in athletics to visit the track and make the most
of the training facilities on offer.”
